I know that I speak a lot about the Middle Voice. So much so, that many of you might think that I love that voice more than any other. However, that’s not true. In fact, I love all three voices equally. In that honor, I want to talk about Chest Voice today. I think that men and women should spend most of their speaking time in Chest Voice, the low, thick, strong, buzzy area of the voice. I think that Middle and Head voices should just be used like ketchup on french fries. If you put too much on, the fries get all soggy. But if you like ketchup, and I do, then just the right amount can make the fries taste more complete. My love of Middle and Head Voice is sound, but I know the power of real Chest Voice and I want you to harness that power to make sure that all of your conversations have the desires outcome. So when you speak, make sure that you are not pretending to be mostly in Chest. A lot of folks get all airy and low on the bottom of the range and that’s not real Chest Voice. You need to look for a buzz to make sure that you are in the right place. Say the word, “Brat”, and hold out the “A” sound. You should feel a rumble in the back part of your throat. If you don’t, you have too much air coming out. I want more cord and less air. Play with the balance to make sure that you are truly in Chest Voice when you are down low in your speaking range. Once you feel good about that, get right back into the pursuit of just the right amount of Middle and Head Voice to add in for flavor and spice. Soon you’ll be sounding better than ever.
